Hungary’s finance ministry launched a work safety campaign with the National Association of Construction Companies (EVOSZ) on Wednesday.

The campaign, dubbed “Focus on the construction industry – work safety first”, will run until the end of 2020, said finance ministry state secretary for employment policy Sándor Bodó.

He noted that 915 workplace accidents were recorded in the construction sector last year, and 22 of those resulted in death.

An informational publication has been prepared for the campaign outlining the biggest workplace risks for construction sector workers: trench accidents, falls from heights, collapsed scaffolding, struck-by accidents and electrocution.

Finance ministry data show workplace accidents in the construction sector stood at 816 in 2017. The number included 21 deaths.
