A new milestone in the fight against coronavirus has been met in Hungary, as the number of people who received their first vaccination has reached one million.

Hungary began rolling out coronavirus vaccines from December onwards, and according to the government’s statistics, 1,002,714 people have received their first jab so far.

Up to this date, 289.4 million doses of the vaccine have been administered worldwide, which is currently 3.8 doses per 100 people, according to statistics coordinated and maintained by Oxford University.

Hungary is altering its vaccination plan. Instead of ensuring that those who are inoculated once receive their second dose as soon as possible, the vaccination plan will now focus on ensuring that as many people as possible receive their first shot. This will lead to a greater number of people being vaccinated, but could prove […]Continue reading

Based on these statistics, for example, it appears that Hungary is currently the 12th most vaccinated country in the world. The number of registered doses is 1,254,377, which is 13.2 doses per hundred people. Although this is a bit misleading as it includes all the doses administered, including the second jab, it is still a remarkable development. If we separate the two phases however, it seems that 10 percent of the Hungarian population has received their first dose so far, and 3.1 percent have received the second.

In comparison, other countries in the world are also undertaking their largest mass vaccination campaigns. On top of that list is Israel, where 96.4 doses of the vaccine were administered per hundred people. 55.2 percent of the country’s population received their first dose, while 41.2 percent received a second one; a total of 8.56 million doses have been registered so far.

Pro-government commentators find it absurd for the opposition to now accuse the government of reacting too late to the third wave of the pandemic, when for weeks it has demanded and easing of restrictions. Left-wing and liberal commentators, on the other hand, accuse the government of letting the epidemic get out of control. Hungarian press […]Continue reading

In the UK 34.4 doses were administered per hundred people. All together nearly 22 million vaccines were given out, which is around 1/3 of the total population. Other prominent countries who are in front of Hungary in terms of doses per hundred people include, but are not limited to: Bahrain, USA, Chile, and Serbia. Some countries such as Seychelles Islands have a large dose per hundred people (84.4), yet they only had to rollout 81,000 vaccines in order to vaccinate 59 percent of their population.
