Hungary Receives US Recognition for Helping Persecuted Christians

2018.09.14.

The Washington-based Center for Security Policy has awarded the Hungarian nation for its efforts to help persecuted Christian communities.

The award was received by Tristan Azbej, state secretary at the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office for persecuted Christians, at a gala dinner in Washington, DC, on Thursday night.

In his laudation Gregg Mitchell, co-leader of the International Religious Freedom Roundtable, noted the Hungarian government’s readiness to help persecuted Christians in the world, with special regard to Hungary’s 2016 programme aimed at helping Christians in the Middle East. He called the initiative exemplary and called on other governments to follow suit.

Azbej blamed political correctness for belittling the gravity of the dangers facing Christian communities and insisted that

Christianity is currently the most persecuted religion”.

Concerning the recent European Parliamentary vote on the Sargentini report criticising the rule of law in Hungary, the state secretary said that the document had been adopted because “Hungary will not open up its borders for massive illegal migration”.
