The rate of population decline increased in the first ten months of 2019 after 1.6 percent fewer births and 0.3 percent fewer deaths were registered compared with the same period last year, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Friday.
The number of marriages increased, with 57,774 couples tying the knot, 24 percent more than in the same period last year, and the highest number since 1990.
In the first ten months of the year, 74,064 children were born, 1,242 fewer than in the same period last year, while 108,123 people died, 345 fewer than in Jan-Oct 2018.
The rate of natural population decline grew by 0.01 percent to 0.42 percent, the KSH said.
