Hungary And Estonia In Continuous And Friendly Dialogue

Tamás Székely 2015.01.13.

There are no open issues between Hungary and Estonia, with both countries seeking agreement on key foreign policy affairs, Zsolt Németh, head of parliament’s foreign affairs committee, said after talks with his Estonian counterpart Marko Mihkelson in Budapest.

They agreed on the need to draft a new European security strategy to replace the one approved in 2003. They also agreed that the allies should take a uniform action against violations of the airspace of North European countries and that the Ukraine-Russia conflict should be resolved by political means, with respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.“We reject the idea of Europe’s re-division” in line with various interests, Németh said.

The two politicians called for the release of Ukrainian MP Nadezhda Shevchenko who had been imprisoned in Moscow. Németh and Mihkelson agreed that the two countries should pursue a continuous and friendly dialogue until Hungary’s Tallinn embassy, closed recently, reopens. As the result of the two countries’s effective cooperation, two Gripen fighters of the Hungarian Air Force flew in Estonia’s airspace last month in preparation for air policing over the Baltic States under NATO agreement.
