Fidesz lawmaker István Bajkai on Saturday faulted left-wing local councils for “money-grubbing” when it comes to collecting from businesses hard hit by the coronavirus crisis.
In a video message, Bajkai said that while the government had lowered taxes, provided wage support and scrapped outdoor table fees for catering establishments, the “Gyurcsány-led” local government of Budapest’s Erzsebetvaros district had started collecting money from businesses there “without inhibition”.
In violation of a government decree, the Erzsébetváros local government, led by the Péter Niedermüller, is still collecting outdoor table fees and “stuffing their pockets”, he added.
