Hungary opened a consular office in Újvidék (Novi Sad), in northern Serbia, on Thursday. Attorney Árpád Zavarkó will oversee the mission as honorary consul.
Zavarkó, who assumed his post on Oct. 9, will be tasked with working to advance Hungarian-Serbian economic ties.
The consular office’s jurisdiction extends to the Bácska (Backa) region of northern Vajdaság (Vojvodina) and the Szerémség (Syrmia) region.
According to official sources, trade turnover between Hungary and Serbia exceeded 2.6 billion euros in 2019, a 2.9 percent increase over the previous year.
