Hungarian Rock Legend Gábor Presser, US Rapper Kanye West Settle Song Copying Lawsuit

By Tamás Székely // 2017.03.24.

American rapper and song writer Kanye West has reached an agreement with Hungarian rock icon and music author Gábor Presser to settle a lawsuit over his 2013 hit single “New Slaves”, news portal reported via

As we reported previously, Presser claimed that roughly one-third of Kanye’s 2013 single was copied from his band Omega’s hit song “Gyöngyhajú Lány,” which is one of Hungary’s most famous rock hits. West claims he had permission to sample the song for use in “New Slaves,” a claim Presser disputed until now in a $2.5 million lawsuit.

According to press reports West sent to Presser a $10,000 check as an advance with the expectation of an agreement, however, Presser said he never took possession of the advance. The tussle in New York federal court, which has dragged on since last May, however, has now “resolved amicably”, reported.

Presser told Hungarian news agency MTI that he was happy and relieved that the story ended, but he declined to further comment on the issue due to the agreement between the sides.
