Áder, whose role is chiefly a ceremonial one, was re-elected to another five-year-term this week by the Hungarian Parliament.

The award was presented yesterday as part of a reception commemorating the 1848 Revolution and subsequent War for Independence. Ambassador Ernő Keskeny presented Khalpakhchi with the award at the Hungarian Embassy in Kiev.

According to its site, the Kiev Molodist International Film Festival, which is in its 47th year, is meant to

analyze the main trends and tendencies in the work of young filmmakers around the world; to establish and broaden creative contacts between young filmmakers and between film schools; to recognize new personalities in modern film art; to integrate Ukrainian films into the global process of film art and industry; to develop Kyiv as the cultural capital of Europe.

In addition to serving as director of the Molodist Film Festival, Khalpakhchi is an expert on Hungarian film, and has demonstrated special interest in films focusing on the 1956 Revolution, when Hungarians briefly rose up against Soviet rule. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the uprising, a Hungarian film produced in each decade since the revolution was shown at the Molodist Festival last October.
