‘Fonogram’ Hungarian Music Awards – Here are the Winners

On Wednesday, the professional jury awarded the Fonogram prize, often dubbed ‘the Hungarian Grammy,’ to the best performers in twelve domestic and six international categories. The ceremony took place at the Várkert Bazár.

The Fonogram prize – which up until 2003 was known as Golden Giraffe- was founded in 1992 to honor and recognize the musical achievements of performers in Hungary. The award is presented by Mahasz, the Hungarian music industry association.

Lifetime achievement award

OMEGA band

Founded in 1992, Omega is one of the most iconic Hungarian bands which was popular not only in Hungary but almost everywhere behind the iron curtain. Their concerts still attract impressive crowds.

 

The professional life achievement award went to Miklós Abella, who was the manager of famous and successful Hungarian acts, such as the Republic band.
