A Hungarian-French tennis doubles has beaten the duo leading tennis doubles world rankings 6-4 at a match in Rome.
Hungarian tennis player Tímea Babos and her French pair Kristina Mladenovic beat Swiss-Indian doubles Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza in two sets, winning the Internazionali BNL d’Italia female tennis doubles competition in Rome on Sinday.
Mr. Babos and Ms. Mladenovic beat the duo, who are in first place on world rankings, taking revenge for their defeat in March semi-finals in Miami. The victory marks the eleventh success for the 22-year-old Hungarian player in doubles, who previously won together with Ms. Mladenovic at the beginning of the month in Marrakech, Morocco.
According to her website, Ms. Babos is currently in seventeenth place on world rankings, which is almost certain to improve at her next match on Monday. She also seems a safe contender for the best position ever held by a Hungarian player, which is currently a thirteenth position achieved by Andrea Temesvári and Petra Mandula.
