Following a tight home victory in the first leg (1-0), everyone expected Budapest Honvéd to easily advance to the next round. Unfortunately, as it turns out, Honvéd didn’t stand a chance against Progrès Niederkorn; the team scored two goals against Honvéd (2-0), and reportedly could have easily scored more. Honvéd’s trainer blamed the defeat on fatigue; however, given that it’s the beginning of August and only the 6th game the team has played, his statement is difficult to take seriously.
At the draw, experts predicted Újpest had no chance against Sevilla. In the first leg, the Spanish demonstrated the difference in quality between the two teams with a straight victory (4-0). Therefore, yesterday’s 1-3 loss didn’t exactly come as a surprise. However, Donát Zsótér’s beautiful strike definitely livened things up.
+1: DAC Dunajská Streda (Dunaszerdahely) is also out. Following a straight defeat on home ground against Dinamo Minsk last week, they lost in Belarus as well (1-4).
