Hungarian House Speaker Laszlo Kover praised relations between Switzerland and Hungary, saying they extended to all areas of life, at an event marking the anniversary of the 1848 Hungarian revolution and freedom fight at the Hungarian embassy in Bern.
The reception late on Monday was attended by representatives of the country’s Hungarian diaspora, diplomats and Swiss dignitaries.
Kövér noted that several leaders of the Hungarian freedom fight found refuge in Switzerland after the fall of the revolution.
He also thanked Switzerland for its solidarity after the 1956 revolution in Hungary, when the country accommodated some 14,000 political refugees.
The friendship between the two countries is present in trade and investment as well as in scientific or diplomatic cooperation, Kövér said.
