House Speaker: Hungary Acts To Protect Europe From Identity And Civilisational Crisis

Ferenc Sullivan 2016.07.08.

If Hungarians are able to protect themselves in their own homeland, this also results in them protecting European civilisation from the identity and civilisational crisis caused by migration, the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly has said.

The more migrants Europe takes in and integrates, the greater the chance is that later they will proceed to integrate “members of the majority civilisation with European culture and Christian roots”. Paraphrasing the National Song by the famous 19th-century Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, he asked: “The time is here, now or never! Shall we be slaves or free? Muslims or Christians, which do you want?”, the state news agency MTI quoted him as saying.

Several political struggles and disputes are under way in contemporary Europe and Hungary’s referendum on the EU’s planned mandatory migrant resettlement quotas, to be held on 2 October, will be part of this, the house speaker said.

According to Mr. Kövér, if Hungarians are able to protect their culture on their “God-given area of settlement”, with this they safeguard not only themselves but also European civilisation and culture. Western European politicians have, in part, already openly given up attempting to do so, he said.
