The national team captain remained down on the ground after the collision in the 25th minute of the match. He could not continue playing and had to be replaced by another player.
The exciting match against the French national team, which ended in a draw, was not free of drama. In the 25th minute of the first half of the match, Ádám Szalai remained on the ground after a collision with a French player. His neck and forehead had to be iced and the striker could not continue the match.
Marco Rossi, manager of the Hungarian national team, told the media at the press conference following the match that Ádám Szalai had to be taken to the hospital. He added that the national team captain was fine under the circumstances. He was hospitalized with dizziness and symptoms of concussion.
The news came as a shock to football fans. If Hungary wants to continue the championship, the team would need to defeat Germany this Wednesday. Having Szalai, the player with the most experience on the national team, would definitely help to elevate those chances.
Thankfully, the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) has announced that the medical examinations ended with negative results and “hopefully” the team’s caption can go on the pitch this Wednesday.
