PMO Head: Iohannis Ruins Hungary-Romania Ties with ‘Chauvinistic and Xenophobic Campaign’

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.05.07.

Concerning recent remarks by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, said at a regular government online press briefing on Thursday that the Hungarian government felt responsible for its ethnic kin, and this commitment had motivated its decisions in the past ten years.

The Hungarian government “needs to take as much confrontation as serves the interests of Transylvania Hungarians”, he said.

Gulyás said Hungary was interested in building “honest and good” ties with Romania, and regretted that the Romanian president was “ruining” those ties through his “involvement in a chauvinistic, xenophobic and gravely offensive campaign”.
