Gozsdu Udvar Voted Budapest’s Coolest “Neighbourhood”

By Ferenc Sullivan // 2014.12.27.

“What is the Williamsburg of your city?” This is the question the US web blog Gawker put to its readers, and now it has published the list of nominations for cities’ coolest hipster neighbourhood, “the one with art gallries and the boutiques and the lines for brunch”. Budapest is represented by Gozsdu Udvar, a complex of seven four-storey buildings and six courtyard in the heart of Budapest’s party quarter despite hardly being a neighbourhood in itself.

Paris, Cracow, Hong Kong, London and Barcelona are also on the list, although most nominated cities are in the United States. The full list can be viewed and commented on here.

Budapest’s District VII has already made it to sixteenth place on an earlier list of the world’s twenty “hippest” neighbourhood – the first place went for the Latvian capital Miera iela quarter, where young fans can pick their choice of antique shops, book stores, galleries and boutique restaurants. New York, or more closely Williamsburg, came second on the earlier list.
