Govt to Compensate Farmers for Drought

MTI-Hungary Today 2019.04.04.

Farmers hit by the dry weather will benefit from a compensation scheme to be launched by the ministry of agriculture, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office announced at his weekly press conference on Thursday.

Gergely Gulyás said that the ministry has received 550 such claims from the beginning of the year, covering a total 24,000 hectares hit by drought.

The government is also planning assistance to building irrigation systems to make farms less vulnerable to the weather, Gulyás added.
