The Hungarian countryside’s most delectable strudel and the world’s 10th best restaurant will both be taking part in this year’s OTP Bank Gourmet Festival, which will be held Pentecost weekend- from May 17th to 20th- at Budapest’s Millenáris Park.
Every year the Gourmet Festival selects two special culinary themes for master chefs to somehow incorporate into their dishes according to their own interpretation. This year’s ingredients are the ‘gombóc’- ‘hungarian dumpling’- and caviar, alongside which a drink- champagne- will also be paired in this year’s iteration of the festival.
The Gourmet Festival is a great way to get a taste of all the country’s best restaurants in three days. The Michelin-starred restaurants of the capital will be present again this year, as well some more of the best from the countryside; in addition, many restaurants that have yet to be celebrated at this festival will also be introduced. According to Sziget Festival founder and event organizer Károly Gerendai,
The goal of the Gourmet Festival is to continue being the number one gastronomic event in Hungary; therefore, in addition to showcasing the country’s leading edge, we are also eager to present the best of international world-class gastronomy.
In addition to a number of world-class Hungarian chefs, the main international crowd-drawing name this year will be Heinz Reitbauer, who is the owner-chef of the Viennese restaurant Steirereck.
The 2 Michelin Star restaurant, which has received a vaunted 19/20 from Gault Millau, was recently selected as the 10th Best Restaurant in the World
In addition, Reitbauer was selected as the chef of the decade by Gault Millau in Austria, and is currently ranked as the best Austrian chef.
Richárd Nemes, the Gourmet Festival’s chief organizer, added that 4 Bib Gourmand-rated restaurants from Warsaw will take part in Budapest’s biggest culinary event as well.
