Robert Velkey 2016.10.20.

Lajos Kozák photographer’s works were bought by the Hungarian Sport Museum in 1975 but an expansive part of the gallery was not elaborated until 2011. Anyway, as Lajos Kozák was a sportman personally he principally took pictures of sport events, so the Museum focused on his sport photos. However, Lajos Szabó the director of the organization recognized there are plenty of photos about the city in the vintage gallery. The director showed Kozák’s pictures about Budapest to Cultiris Cultural Photo Agency and a collection was made of the photos by Lajos Kozák.

The sportman and photographer was born on the 7th of March in Székesfehérvár. He applied to the University of Physical Education in Budapest and after he finished his studies he worked as a PE teacher, trainer and sport-manager. Together with his professional work he did his photographer activity. Although most of his collections are pictures taken about sport events but he had a great gallery of art pictures between the world wars. His liked topics are the Gellért Hill, the Városliget, the quayside of Buda and Pest and the winter mostly at the Normafa. Photos of this gallery collected and published by the Mai Manó Ház, the House Of Hungarian Photographers.

The vintage pictures are invites us to a time-travel and have a look at the everyday life of Budapest in the collection of Lajos Kozák’s city-photos. Click here to check the gallery out.
