With the bodyworks of Budapest’s new trolley buses already complete, the vehicles will be transported from the Solaris factory in the Polish city of Poznan to the Skoda plant in Plzen in the Czech Republic, where their electric power units will be fitted, the Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK) has announced on it Facebook page.
The first 24 trolley buses, costing HUF 4 billion, will arrive to the Hungarian capital this summer. The fleet could be extended by a further 84 vehicles when funds will be at disposal.
The 14 solo and 10 articulated, low-floor buses are air-conditioned and fitted with heating systems. The first of the vehicles will serve trolley routes in central Pest and District XIV, such as lines 70 and 74, according to reports. The last time the capital purchased a comparable trolley bus fleet was in the 1980s.
