Finance Minister: Intl Investors Back Govt’s Green Programme

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.06.03.

By being among the first European Union member states to issue a “green” government bond, Hungary has sent a clear message to the markets about its commitment to environmental protection, the finance minister said on Tuesday.

Proceeds from the issue of the 15-year 1.5 billion forint green bond will be used exclusively to finance environmentally sound investment projects, Mihaly Varga said in a video message on Facebook.

The bond, denominated in euros, is “the first step taken towards a new segment of investors”, the minister said. Offers for the bond came to 7.7 billion euros, Varga said, adding that this reflected investors’ confidence in Hungary and the Hungarian government’s economic policy.
