The government’s family protection action plan has helped 220,000 families, some one million people since it was launched 18 months ago, Katalin Novák, minister without portfolio in charge of families, said in an interview published by pro-government daily Magyar Hírlap on Thursday.
Novák welcomed that in Hungary “a commitment to families, to having children has been increasing in recent years” and suggested that this policy was supported by the government’s measures. She added that ensuring a life-long exemption from the personal income tax to mothers with four or more children was “an option not seen in any other country”.
Referring to single parents, Novák said they deserved “appreciation and help because they have to work for two persons”.
Novák said that first time home buyers would be provided further assistance from January on, adding that goal was not only to encourage couples to have children but to improve conditions for families as the children grow up.
Novák also mentioned that pensioners would be receiving an extra week’s pension in January, as the first instalment of 13th month pension to be restored gradually by 2024.
Concerning her Fidesz party, Novák referred to the ruling party as “a truly conservative, Christian democratic community bent on promoting truth rather than fighting for power itself.”
