Expanding, Hungarian Tech Company Prezi Acquires Latvian Start-up Infogram
Today, Prezi announced that it had purchased Infogram, a Riga-based “web-based data visualization company. This is the first acquisition for the Hungarian company.
Founded in 2009 by Péter Árvay, Péter Halácsy, and Ádám Somlai-Fischer, Prezi is a presentation platform that offers a more engaging, interesting alternative to standard PowerPoints. In the past 8 years, it has grown from a tiny Hungarian start-up into a tech titan, with offices in San Francisco, Budapest, and Mexico City, and with over 85 million users worldwide. Prezi currently employs 270 people.
Its founders have become key tech leaders; together, they have been listed as some of Europe’s top tech entrepreneurs, while CEO Péter Árvay has been mentioned as one of the most influential LGBT leaders in the entire world, and Péter Halácsy has opened four innovative kindergartens and grade schools in the Hungarian capital.

Although Prezi has refused to disclose financial details of the acquisition, Árvay described the purchase of the Latvian-based Infogram in glowing terms, stating that
Prezi was inspired to unite with Infogram because of our shared mission to help people make better decisions by providing more effective tools for visual communication…If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the data that backs it up makes it credible. And without a story, data falls flat in effectiveness.
Infogram is a data visualization site that allows users to create charts, maps, and infographics. It was founded in 2009, and today has over 3 million users.
Infogram CEO Mikko Järvenpää also praised his company’s purchase by the Hungarian tech company, writing in a press release that
Joining forces with Prezi means our mission to bring beautiful and informative infographics and other data visualization technologies to more users will happen even faster…. with Prezi, we will continue our work as a world leader in data visualization to create more powerful, delightful and useful products than ever before.
Following this purchase, Infogram will become a “wholly-owned subsidiary” of Prezi, and will remain in Latvia. Infogram’s team currently consists of 35 people; while the majority work in Riga, a few are based in San Francisco as well.
