Police carried out an anti-corruption raid against Ferenc Ódor in the parking lot of the Encs District Authority. Ódor is an ex-Fidesz MP and the current director of the district’s administrative office. The Central Public Prosecutor’s office announced that a senior public official has been accused of bribery and abuse of official position.
At the same time, another public official, the head of the local cadaster, was arrested in a famous restaurant.
According to the prosecution’s statement, the two leaders asked 4 million forints (1 million is 3200 EUR) from an individual(s) in return for his/her contribution in public administration.
In the case, which began based on the denunciation of the National Protective Service, the authorities caught one of the suspects receiving the aforementioned amount. During the search of the suspect’s home and workplace, the corruption money was found and confiscated.
While one of the suspects denied the charges, the other gave a partial confession. Neither complained about the prosecution process, however.
According to the prosecution, if found guilty, they could be sentenced to two to ten years in prison. Authorities have requested pre-trial detention.
