“If Orbán continues to do as he did in the last days, it will be exclusion or he will quit himself and that’s up to him,” President of European People’s Party (EPP) Joseph Daul told reporters on Wednesday, Politico reported.
Daul made the comment at a press conference in Nagyszeben (Sibiu), Romania ahead of an informal summit of EU leaders. He added that Orbán and Fidesz are “free people,” and “if [Orbán] decides to leave, we will inevitably respect democracy.”
In connection with Fidesz’s suspension from the EPP in March, he claimed that a decision would be made before a party congress in November.
Daul also commented on Orbán’s choice to no longer support EPP Spitzenkandidat Manfred Weber for Commission president, saying that the Hungarian PM is “not going in the right direction.”
