EP Election – LMP Warns of ‘Earth’s Eleventh Hour’ at Campaign Close
MTI-Hungary Today 2019.05.25.
“We are in the eleventh hour”, the top candidate of opposition LMP said at his party’s campaign closing demonstration on Friday, ahead of the upcoming European parliamentary election.
Addressing dozens of supporters, Gábor Vágó called for meaningful action or else “the whole of mankind will be jeopardised”. He said that climate change “will not be merciful to anyone” and would hit “the leftist, rightist, conservative, liberal, poor or rich alike”. He condemned overconsumption and insisted that “large, profit-hunting companies must be stopped”.
LMP co-leader Márta Demeter, who has the second place on LMP’s list, said that Sunday’s election would decide if “Hungarian interests will in fact be promoted in the EU” and such issues as assistance for economically disadvantaged regions in Hungary or raising wages could be discussed at the European level.

She insisted that Hungary’s governments since 1989 “delivered the people to foreign capital”, adding that community funding from the EU should be used to promote small and medium-size Hungarian companies rather than to benefit multinationals.
