EC Refers Hungary to Court over Food Pricing

MTI-Hungary Today 2019.01.24.

The European Commission on Thursday referred Hungary to the Court of Justice of the European Union over rules that require retailers to apply the same profit margins to domestic and imported farm and food products.

The referral to the court is the third and final step of an infringement procedure launched in February 2017. Hungarian authorities have maintained their position during the procedure.

The EC said the rules run counter to the EU principle of the free movement of goods by preventing some retailers of imported goods from offering more attractive prices to consumers.
