An investment package worth 4 billion euros was accepted by the European Commission. In turn, Hungary will receive support for the development of the southern part of ring road motorway M0. European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu declared that the EU will invest 25 billion euros (c. 2,6 billion forints) in cohesion funds in Hungary between 2014 and 2020.
The support will also contribute to the renewal of two bridges and the creation of new bike paths. This coupled with the modernization of public utility will shorten driver’s daily commutes, says Crețu. The motorway will reduce traffic congestion, making the lives of Budapest’s citizens easier.

The project includes the renewal of the semi-motorway that forms the south ring road of motorway M0. The Duna bridge at Háros and Soroksár, as well as the sidewalk in the area, will also be renovated.
The plans for a ring-road surrounding Budapest were first drafted in 1974.
