The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has proposed channelling 24 billion forints (EUR 70m) from government communications allocations to the fight against coronavirus, lawmaker Lajos Oláh said on Friday.
Olah cited a report by online business news magazine g7.hu stating that the national communications office had recently signed a 50 billion forint framework agreement, which can be extended twice. This would translate into 150 billion forints to be spent on “government propaganda”, he said.
Ruling Fidesz, which has a history of “using propaganda money to fight against imaginary enemies for years”, would this time have the possibility to fight against a real enemy, Olah said.
He said the 24 billion forints should be used for informing the public about the most important tasks and preparing public institutions, schools, halls of residences, old people’s homes, kindergartens and government offices to take protective measures.
