The Budapest based Balassi Institute was the host of a meeting of directors from Hungary’s cultural institutions around the world. The event, titled ‘Die is Cast’ (A kocka el van vetve), was opened by prominent figures of the Hungarian government, including Tibor Navracsics, Zoltán Balog, Mónika Balatoni and Pál Hatos.
The focus of the meeting was the interconnection of creativity and the cultural diplomacy of Hungary. The goal of the Balassi Institution is to promote the country’s cultural values, making it accessable from anywhere in the world. The past year saw the opening of four new institutions, and with Belgrade, Zagreb, Paris and Istanbul the total number of institutions grew to 23, spread out in 20 countries.
In his opening speech Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, stated the importance of the way we promote Hungary and the Hungarian culture abroad. “The mission that the Balassi Institute has been conducting in the past years gives us a great opportunity to showcase the image of Hungary the way we prefer it” – said the minister.
