Diósgyőr defeated Bulgarian PFC Litex Lovech 0-2 yesterday in the city of Lovech as the second round of the Europa League qualifications began. The other two Hungarian teams in the competition were not so lucky, as both Győri ETO and Ferencváros suffered defeats.
Diósgyőr, led by Tomislav Sivić, secured an impressive victory in Lovech, with goals by Milán Németh in the 81st minute, and Grumic Miroslav scoring the second in the last minute. With this away win Diósgyőr can await the second leg with great confidence and a comfortable two goal lead.
Ferencváros suffered a 1-0 defeat in Rijeka (Fiume) from Croatian team HNK Rijeka. The home team played with confidence throughout the 90 minutes, scoring the winning goal in minute 85 by the penalty of Ivan Krstanovic. The second leg will be held next Thursday in the Puskás Ferenc Stadion in Budapest.
Győri ETO suffered a crushing defeat from Swedish team IFK Göteborg on home ground, the final score being 0-3. Lasse Vibe scored the first Swedish goal in the 8th minute, Johansson doubled in minute 56, while the third goal came in minute 83 by May Mahlangu. With the second leg set to take place in Göteborg, Győri ETO can expect an uphill battle. (MTI)
