Coronavirus: DK Calls for State to Finance Universal Testing

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.04.16.

The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has called for the state to pay for everyone in Hungary to be tested for novel coronavirus.

“It soon became obvious that the government was not up to the task of establishing the conditions for mass testing,” DK spokesman Balázs Barkóczi told an online press conference on Thursday. As a result, a growing number of private labs started offering tests costing between 9,000 forints (EUR 25) to 30,000 forints, he added.

Coronavirus Mass Screening: Is It Needed or Not?

“Nowhere in the world are people forced to pay for coronavirus testing,” he said. “Even in the US, they carry out testing free of charge.”

If the state is unable to carry out testing, it should at least pay the costs of people turning to private labs, he added.
