Coronavirus: Average Age of Infected People Drops to 26

In Hungary, the average age for those infected with the coronavirus was 67 years during the first wave of the pandemic, but the current average age is now 26, announced the Director of the Infectious Diseases department in the National Public Health Center.

Ágnes Galgóczi added that the big difference is that during spring the people from the most vulnerable group were infected, thus they needed hospital care. Therefore, the burden on the public health system was higher than it is today.

The new focus of the virus is mainly in locations frequented by younger generations: college freshman camps, parties, pubs, and weddings, the expert pointed out. Galgóczi Ágnes has urged everyone to follow health guidelines in place and to stay away from public spaces in case someone is experiencing symptoms.

She added that the recent examination of sewage suggests that in Budapest and in Debrecen there will be a significant growth in active cases in the forthcoming days.
