The Ministry of Human Resources (Emmi) has announced that it allocated 1 billion forints (EUR 2.8m) to support independent artists troubled by restrictions due to the novel coronavirus epidemic.
According to the statement of the ministry, funding will be available through bids called by strategic national cultural institutions for artists left without an income due to cancelled concerts and other events.
Actors and other theatre professionals will have to apply at the National Theatre, folk musicians at the House of Traditions, and contemporary dance performers at the National Dance Theatre, the statement said.
The National Centre for Circus Arts will award funds for circus artists, the Petőfi Museum of Literature to pop musicians, Filharmonia Magyarország to classical musicians, while the Budapest Music Center to jazz musicians, the statement said.
