The Hungarian army will dispatch over a hundred additional troops to help police with patrols and protection at the borders with Austria and Slovakia, on Saturday, a defence ministry official has said.
The army has already assigned operative groups to oversee 71 strategic companies, Romulusz Ruszin told an online press conference. Their tasks include securing the operations of those companies and helping their management, he said.
In addition, the army has also dispatched military police officers to patrol streets in settlements that have army barracks, Ruszin said. Their tasks include ensuring security and providing information to the public, as well as securing the scene in the event of a crime or unlawful activity until police arrive, he added.
