Popular Budapest leisure hotspots, such as Margaret Island and Óbuda Island will be re-opened to the public at the weekend, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Friday.

Budapest residents are however advised to observe social distancing rules required because of the coronavirus epidemic and keep at least 1,5 meters from each other, the mayor said in a video message posted on Facebook.

The city council said in a statement earlier in the day that they ask Budapesters to preferably choose to visit parks and green spots less frequented near their homes. In the video posted to the social media site, the mayor and his colleagues recommended less popular spots around the capital.
