The number of patients confirmed to have contracted the new coronavirus in Hungary has increased by 8 to 4094 in the last 24 hours. This was the highest number of new infections in the recent days, however, no new cases of deaths were reported overnight. The total number of fatalities to 570, while a total of 2589 people have recovered from the illness, according to koronavirus.gov.hu, the official government information website for the epidemic.
The total number of active cases increased a bit to 935. Yesterday, the number of those with active infection was 931. According to the government website, the total number of those recovered has reached 2589. Currently, there are 185 coronavirus patients being treated with the disease in hospital, 15 of whom requires ventilator treatment.
A total of 4490 people are in official home quarantine and the authorities have taken 256,326 samples. The majority of cases were reported from Budapest, with 1,943 positive cases, and the neighbouring Pest county (604). These areas are followed by Fejér (376), Komárom-Esztergom (301) and Zala (260) counties. The smallest numbers were reported from Békés and Tolna county (13).
The website also noted that while the state of emergency ended, medical preparedness measures have come into effect and the operative board is still up and running and ready to deploy special units to combat any infection hotspots. They warned that the virus is still spreading and it is at utmost importance to continue to follow general precautions.
It is still compulsory to wear a face mask in shops and on public transport, separate shopping times for those over the age of 65 has ended last week. Shops, restaurants, hotels, cinemas, theaters, swimming pools, spas can open without restrictions. However, entertainment programs, events involving music and dance with more than 500 participants are still not allowed.
Hungarian citizens returning to Hungary will no longer have to enter into home quarantine. Furthermore, the travel ban on health staff, law enforcement officers, soldiers and government officials has also been lifted.
