The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) on Wednesday called for the resignation of László Parragh, the head of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK), saying Parragh had “admitted” that the government was helpless in the face of the novel coronavirus epidemic.
Parragh said in a Tuesday interview on commercial ATV that “so many have gone bankrupt in the past few days, and so many are going bankrupt as we speak, that there is nothing we can do about that.”
DK spokesman Balázs Barkóczi told an online press conference that Parragh had “admitted that the government cannot or will not handle the crisis”.
László Parragh is regarded as a very influential figure in the Orbán government’s circles.
