Coronavirus: MSZP Demands Gov’t Pay 80% of Wages at Ailing Companies

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.04.01.

The opposition MSZP (Socialist Party) has called on the government to help companies impacted by the novel coronavirus epidemic and undertake payment of at least 80 percent of their workers’ salaries, the deputy leader of the party said on Wednesday.

Coronavirus – Jobbik Demands Gov’t Pay 80% Wages of At-risk Employees

Governments in neighbouring countries have all taken up to pay a fair proportion of wages, such as in Austria with as much as 90 percent, deputy party leader László Szakács told an online press conference on Facebook.

He said the payment should be provided directly to the employees rather than to their companies. “Today, four in five Hungarian families have no savings at all, this is why ensuring them a steady income is vital,” Szakács said.
