Coronavirus: 21 Fatalities, Registered Infections Increase by 1068

The number of registered coronavirus infections in Hungary has increased with 1068 to 37,664 in the past 24 hours, while 21 patients have died of COVID-19 and its complications, bringing the total number of deaths to 954, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Sunday morning. 

Currently, there are 25,862 active infections, while the number of fatalities stands at 954, and 10,848 people have made a recovery. A total of 1252 COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospital, 138 of them on ventilators. This means that in only 24 hours, 78 people was hospitalized, out of 28 requires ventilator treatment. Altogether 22,215 people are in official home quarantine and 825,570 tests have been carried out.

According to Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller, hospitals had now started providing dynamic data supply on the situation. She said access to up-to-date information helps making decisions on the necessary measures, supplying protective gear where it is needed and the selection of hospitals, she added.

The official coronavirus information website warns Hungarians to observe social distancing guidelines and hygiene regulations. It asked elderly people to pay increased attention to protecting themselves and observe general regulations.

Entry restrictions for travellers from abroad remain in force. In addition to shops and public transport, wearing a mask is now mandatory in cinemas, theatres, health and social institutions and public offices, and clubs have to close by 11pm to curb the spread of the virus. Regulations include a ban on visiting hospitals and elderly care homes which have to take every possible measure to prevent infections, the site said.

Most infections have been registered in Budapest (12,545), followed by Pest County (4,791) and the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron (2,252), Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (1,898), Hajdú-Bihar (1,734), Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (1,706) and Csongrád-Csanád (1,658). Tolna (355) and Békés (500) counties have the fewest infections.
