Coronavirus: DK Calls on Academy of Arts for Support

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.05.23.

The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has called on the Hungarian Academy of Arts to provide immediate relief to actors, musicians, dancers and other artists impacted by the coronavirus epidemic.

Erzsébet Gy Németh, DK’s deputy leader, told a press conference on Facebook on Saturday that artists have been without work for two months, and will probably have to do without any income before theatres and concert halls reopen.

Meanwhile, the academy, set up by ruling Fidesz with a budget of 10 billion forints, is “lurking in a state of suspended animation” and hasn’t provided artists with a single forint, she said.
