A military exercise, the largest in Hungary this year, is under way with 1,700 local and foreign troops and 600 pieces of equipment involved, Hungary’s Defence Ministry said. The exercise code-named Capable Logistician 2015 (CL15), the largest of its kind in logistics capabilities of NATO members and partner countries, is taking place from June 1 until June 26 in the Bakony Combat Training Centre in western Hungary, it said.
This week, more than 300 people and 250 additional pieces of equipment will be added to the exercise from some 20 countries. CL15 aims to standardise the logistics support and procedures of the international forces in line with NATO guidelines, as well as strengthen cooperation among partner states. The exercise will also strengthen the defence capabilities of the Hungarian armed forces and enhance cooperation among NATO allies, the ministry said.
“Hungarian troops are ready to fight the Islamic State in coalition forces, and to try to put an end jointly to massacre and killing” – the Hungary’s General-in-chief said last week at a ceremony marking the UN Peacekeepers’ Day as well as the Memorial Day of Hungarian Heroes. According to Tibor Benkő, living in peaceful coexistence is the only solution, and the Hungarian troops are meant to be available for creating this coexistence for Hungary and large national communities.
Hungarian soldiers are currently serving in 12 countries on three continents. Defence minister Csaba Hende said previously that Hungary’s defence budget had increased by 8.2 percent, or by 20 billion forints this year and it will be even higher in 2016.
