Budapest’s Longest Tram Arrives: Eleven More 56-Metre Monsters To Join Capital’s Streetcar Fleet – Gallery!

By Ferenc Sullivan // 2015.07.30.

The first example of Budapest’s longest tram, the 56-metre Spanish-made CAF, has arrived in Budapest a week after the manufacturer published pictures of the  completed streetcar still in the factory. The tram, which is even longer than the Combinos running on the capital’s famous 4/6 line, arrived in three pieces on the back of freight trucks and will be assembled in Budapest.

In the meanwhile, the tram’s shorter. 34-metre variety will soon complete its obligatory 10 000-kilometre test run before entering service in the capital, which is expected to take place from September. A total of 35 shorter and 12 longer CAF trams will serve in the capital, on the routes 1, 3, 19 and 61.
