2018.05.31.

The Budapest Assembly unanimously approved a new pact between Budapest and Shanghai on the promotion of friendship and the exchange of experiences that lasts until 2022.

The mayors of Budapest and Shanghai signed a twin city agreement on August 28, 2013. The five-year document will expire this year, and the two cities are renewing the cooperation. The pact declares the goal of cultivating close friendships between the two cities and countries as well as expanding areas of cooperation. Areas include economic and trade relations, urban development and management, the exchange of best practices and experiences regarding integrated transport development, the promotion of educational and scientific cooperation, tourism promotion and cooperation and cultural and artistic exchanges.

The agreement is expected to be signed in Budapest on June 14.

Meanwhile, the Assembly also unanimously approved a framework agreement for cooperation between Budapest and Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent. The letter of intent also covers the opening of Hungarian and Uzbek national restaurants and shops in one another’s capital cities. Budapest and Tashkent signed a cooperation agreement in June 2003. This was renewed in 2013 and in 2017. Tashkent’s mayor then invited his Budapest counterpart, István Tarlós, to visit Uzbekistan in February this year.
