Budapest has a fairly unique quality, being among the very few large cities in the world that is rich in thermal water – so it is also called the city of spas, and has been a well-known balneological center since the 1930s. Do you know which historic bath of Budapest can be seen on this vintage pictures and approximately when it was taken?
This bath can be found in the 9th district of the capital. The architectural plan for the public bath in Dandár street was prepared by Ferenc K. Császár. The Bath was commissioned in 1930, then transformed in 1936. During World War II the Bath was only slightly damaged so it could be opened as soon as 1945. Originally, the Bath operated as a sanitary bath. In 1978, however, following a thorough reconstruction, it was put in operation as a thermal bath. The vintage picture was taken this times in the ’70s. Nowadays, it has a great outdoor pool to, and changed the design a little bit.
After the name of the street where ther bath can be found, it is called the Dandár Bath. The Dandár’s hot spring water contains calcium, magnesium, hydrogen-carbonate and sulphate-chloride, also containing sodium, with a substantial content of fluoride ions.
