Tep, the ingenious mobile app invented by young Hungarian developers from the city of Szeged that came second at Microsoft’s international competition “Imagine Cup”, can be downloaded for free for Android phones since the weekend.
Tep combines sport with play: the app, based on the “tamagochi” principle, enables users to care for the virtual giraffe in their pocket by running, cycling and walking. Users are further motivated to exercise by statistics on sports performance appearing on the screen and community functions.
While the app was originally invented for Windows Phone, its Android version is available for free download from Google Play since the weekend.
The Tep team began developing a fitness app that combines sport with entertainment at a hackathlon in May 2013. The five-member team is made up of two developers, two designers and a business leader.
The finals of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup, at which Tep came second in the Innovation category, took place last July in Seattle.
