The Hungarian Audit Office (ÁSZ) on Thursday suspended budgetary funding for the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) party, citing irregularities uncovered during its review of the party’s finances in 2017-2018.
DK will not receive state funding until it has rectified its finances and proved that they are now in line with regulations, ÁSZ said.
ÁSZ Secretary-General Magdolna Holman told an online press conference on Thursday that DK’s financial statements do not represent in a “real and credible” manner the party’s income and expenses, she said.
The false statements have also misled the party’s membership, Holman said.
