Astana Business Forum: Foreign Minister Hails Hungarian-Kazakh Economic Cooperation

By Tamás Székely // 2015.04.02.

Political cooperation between Hungary and Kazakhstan is excellent and this provides a good basis for building up economic relations between the two countries, Hungary’s foreign affairs and trade minister told a bilateral business forum in Astana. Kazakhstan is an important trade partner for Hungary with an abundance of opportunities for strengthening economic ties, Péter Szijjártó said.  During his official visit in Astana, PM Viktor Orbán also held speech at the business forum.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister recalled that the Eastern Opening policy of the Hungarian government had opened the doors ahead of productive economic cooperation. The Hungarian government always backs the strengthening of relations between the two countries and thus economic cooperation, he emphasized, and encouraged Hungarian and Kazakh businessmen to use the opportunity for networking. Central Europe and Kazakhstan are equally dynamic economies in the region, Szijjártó said, reassuring businessmen of the Hungarian commitment to supporting the building of ties between the two countries and tapping economic opportunities.

Péter Szijjártó announced two agreements aimed at further developing cooperation. The establishment of a strategic council will aid the improvement of political relations, and a financial fund will be created to smooth cooperation between Hungarian and Kazakh companies with support from Hungary’s Eximbank. He said one goal is to increase the number of Hungarian small and medium-sized firms which can effectively contribute towards exports and thereby contribute towards the building up of ties with Kazakhstan.
