Asha, the young elephant born in the Budapest Zoo in 2013, has succumbed to Elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV). The insidious virus is deadly in three-quarters of cases, and unfortunately, even its most painful treatments couldn’t save her.
Asha was born to elephants Angelo and Assam on Bálint Day in 2013 at the Budapest Zoo.
According to her symptoms, Asha was a victim of Elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV), which is found both in Elephants in zoos and the wild.
On Sunday, the Budapest Zoo shared a highlight reel of Asha’s life.
